Run Portland is Competitive

The Run Portland HERO (Homegrown Elite Runners of Oregon) and Elite are sub-groups of the community running team. This team is selected based on:

  • Consistent participation in a wide variety of local events
  • A positive and influential role in the local running community
  • Volunteering or participation in running events in the community at large beyond racing/running
  • Age group award winner
Run Portland provides Hero runners – successful local racers and enthusiastic ambassadors of the sport –  equipment and support to further their passion running. They earn their sponsorship through volunteerism and advocasy.

Group Runs

The Run Portland competition team meets Tuesday’s at Lincoln H.S. at 5:30 PM for track workouts. To learn more, contact Run Portland coach John Howell.

 

Elite

The United States best middle distance  and distance runners often have the cards stacked against them when balancing the cost of living, coaching and healthcare with their work and training. Run Portland sponsors elite athletes with US national standards in their pursuit of achieving world class performances and ultimately, a chance to represent our country in competition at the World Championships or Olympic Games.
